MONACO: The World's Most Glamorous Tax Haven
By David Johnson
If you are intrigued by the idea of rubbing elbows with Hollywood movie stars,
international fashion designers, professional athletes, and royalty, there is
no better place to do so than Monaco.
Located on the French Riviera (bordering France and Italy), Monaco is known for
its casinos, gormet restaurants, country clubs, beaches, world-class hotels, and
outstanding financial service providers. Monaco has a population of more than
35,000 inhabiting a stretch of land less than two sqaure miles (Monaco is the
second smallest country in the world). One might then wonder how a nation of
465 acres can earn the title of the "jet Set Capital of the World". One visit
to the principality tells the whole story. Parking lots boast exotic and
classic automobiles ranging from Lamborghinis and Ferraris to Rolls Royces and
Desenbergs. Casinos are loaded with high rollers comparable to those found in
Las Vegas and Atlantic City, the streets of the capital (Monet Carlo) have the
glitz of Beverly Hills and you'll find cocktail parties every night, as in Palm
Beach.
The official language is French, though the majority of Monegasques are Italian.
Most residents also speak English and German. Monaco has a thriving tourist
industry, and I've put together a brief list of contacts to make your trip to or
business in Monaco smooth sailing.
